Family Weekend 2021 is September 24-26

We are pleased to welcome our Hawkeye Parents, Families and Guardians for Family Weekend 2021! The weekend's events (the complete schedule listed below) offer an array of opportunities to amp up your Hawkeye Pride and connect with your student's experience on campus. We are so excited to have you back on campus - Go Hawks!

Family Weekend Registration (closed)

Registration for the official Family Weekend events will be live on Friday, August 6, 2021. The deadline for registration is Friday, September 17, 2021.

Registration for Family Weekend 2021 is now closed.

Register by Wednesday, September 1, 2021 for a chance to win a two-night stay at the Iowa House Hotel located on campus at the Iowa Memorial Union. This stay includes a suite that sleeps up to 6 guests, free parking, continental breakfast, and access to the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center (CRWC). A winner will be drawn at random and notified by Friday, September 3, 2021.

Family Weekend Welcome & Registration

Friday, September 24, 2021 @ 11AM - 6PM

Hubbard Commons, Iowa Memorial Union (IMU), 125 N Madison Street, Iowa City, IA 52242

Get in the Hawkeye spirit as you pick-up your registration materials, meet other families, enjoy a light snack, and enter to win an Iowa Hawk Shop gift card! Be sure to pin your location on the Hawkeye Nation Map, take your picture in front of the IOWA banner, and share your Hawkeye pride on social media (#uifamilyweekend2021)! Also, don’t forget to tour the historic Iowa Memorial Union (IMU) and visit the Iowa Hawk Shop for all your black and gold fan discount!

College Open Houses and Faculty Lecture

Friday, September 24, 2021 @ 2 - 4PM

*A schedule of lectures and locations will be provided at the welcome and registration

It’s back-to-school for parents and families during the Parent College Open Houses. This event provides the opportunity to attend a 20-minute interactive lecture led by a UI faculty member who will share the many opportunities offered to students within their college, along with a brief lecture session sure to entertain! No note-taking or quizzes required– just 100% educational fun!

TIPPIE COLLEGE OF BUSINESS 

2:00 p.m.- Presenter: Andrea Luangrath, Assistant Professor of Marketing, Tippie College of Business

2:00 p.m.- “Working with the US State Department: Understanding Civil Wars, Women's Involvement in Peace Negotiations, and China.” University of Iowa students work on projects with the US State Department through a class called Diplomacy Labs. Across multiple semesters, students and I have produced reports on negotiations in civil wars, women's participation in peace negotiations, the effect of China's Confucius Institutes, and many other topics. An evening of magic with UI alum, Nate Staniforth

Nate Staniforth has starred in the Discovery Channel’s international hit TV series 'Breaking Magic', which has aired to over one-hundred-million people in over 100 countries. As a magician, Nate has performed for thousands of audiences around the globe, including featured appearances at Google, the Today Show, and the world-famous Oxford Union.

An annual tradition, the Gameday Breakfast creates Hawkeye memories for students, parents, guardians, and families. After the breakfast, amp up your Hawkeye Pride at the FREE pregame Lot Show and Rec Show (UI Recreational Building, 930 Evashevski Drive, Iowa City, IA 52246) featuring the award winning Hawkeye Marching Band. UI Dance Marathon Runway of Hope

Sunday, September 26, 2021, 10AM - 12PM

Join UI Dance Marathon at their annual fundraising brunch in support of pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant patients being treated at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. Enjoy brunch and the Runway of Hope Kiddo Fashion Show where our Dance Marathon Kiddos, along with their siblings and UI student leaders, will walk the runway.

Family Spirit Award

The University of Iowa Family Spirit Award recognizes a Hawkeye Family - spanning at least three generations of University of Iowa graduates - that has substantially benefited from and continues to advocate for the UI, as well as contributes toward bettering the state of Iowa and its communities.

The Mark (82BSCE) and Jaclyn (83BBA) Bogue Family is the 2021 recipient of the University of Iowa Family Spirit Award. The family is from Ida Grove, Iowa, and 16 of the 17 family members have earned at least one degree from the University of Iowa.

  • Football Parking (Please note: traffic around Kinnick Stadium is very congested and parking is limited. We suggest parking in the Hancher Auditorium parking lot and using the free football charter bus to the stadium. Bus service starts 9 a.m.)

In addition to CAMBUS' free service, there is also transit available through the City of Iowa City. Visit Iowa City Transit for a list of prices and routes to navigate to and from campus, and around the Iowa City and Coralville area.

Where can I stay? 

If you would like to explore lodging options, you can call the Iowa City/Coralville Convention and Visitors Bureau at 319-337-6592 or 800-283-6592 or visit their website (https://www.thinkiowacity.com/places-to-stay/hotels/) and click on their lodging page for updated information regarding hotel availability. Some Iowa City and Coralville hotels require a two-night stay on football weekends, and the room rates are typically higher than on non-football game weekends.

FAQs

Does my University of Iowa student have to pay to attend Family Weekend events?

Yes, anyone who wants to attend the official UI Family Weekend events must pay and register, including UI students. Additional tickets may be purchased online at the time of registration, or at the door of the event (pending availability). 

Will you mail our Family Weekend registration packet?

The packet purchased through UI Family Weekend registration will need to be picked up in person either by you or your UI student at the Family Weekend Welcome & Registration on Friday, September 24, 2021 between 11AM - 6PM in Hubbard Commons, Iowa Memorial Union, 125 N Madison Street, Iowa City, Iowa 52242.

I can't make it to UI Family Weekend Welcome & Registration. Can I pick up my Family Weekend registration packet at another time? 

If you are unable to make the UI Family Weekend Welcome & Registration, you can pick up your registration packet at the door of any of the official family weekend events.

Iowa Hawkeye Football Game

Nile Kinnick Gameday Tradition/Hawkeye Football Team Welcome

Before entering Kinnick Stadium each game, the Hawkeye Football Team passes a 20-foot tall statue of Nile Kinnick, the team’s 1939 (and only) Heisman winner, outside the stadium, touching the helmet at the base of the statue’s feet. Approximately 3 1/2 to 4 hours prior to game time, buses arrive at the stadium, and Hawkeye football players and coaches touch the 20-foot statue of Nile Kinnick before going through the team entrance.
