Family Weekend 2019 is November 15 - 17

Family Weekend 2019 packages are now available for purchase! You can purchase tickets here. The $80.00 packages are for 3 tickets to each of the Family Weekend events. Tickets to the football game and Dance Marathon Family Weekend Brunch must be purchased separately. 

Registration deadline is Friday, November 1 at 5pm.

Families who purchase a Family Weekend package will be granted access to purchase single game tickets for the November 16th football game prior to the general public. A code, listed on the Family Weekend package confirmation e-mail, will provide families access to purchase the football tickets beginning July 10th at 9 AM.

2019 Family Weekend Events

Friday, November 15th  

Duelly Noted, Duelling Pianos, Englert Theatre

Duelly Noted is a one-of-a-kind act with both sass and class. They play all your favorite hits from the 60’s to today. As a female duo, they stand out among other groups in the male-dominated dueling pianos scene. Cassondra and Jacy not only have a charismatic connection on-stage, but they are also best friends off-stage. Whether you want to hear All About That Bass, Don’t Stop Believing, or I Will Survive; Duelly Noted will have you on your feet and singing at the top of your lungs. This is a high energy and very interactive show that will be a perfect kick off to Family Weekend 2019!

Showings are at 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM at Englert Theater, 221 E. Washington St, Iowa City, IA

Your registration fee includes three tickets to Friday night's 7:00pm or 8:30pm show.

Saturday, November 16th

Gameday Tailgate, Field House near Historic Kinnick Stadium

Join us for our annual Family Weekend tailgate! The tailgate will feature great food, music, games, and company. Get your family picture taken, amp up your Hawkeye pride, get to know other families – all within walking distance of the stadium. Don’t forget to wear your family weekend shirt!

Your registration fee includes three tickets to this event.

Game Day – Iowa vs Minnesota*, Kinnick Stadium

During the game, the Frohwein/Parsons family will receive the 2019 University of Iowa Family Spirit Award. They represent four generations of University of Iowa graduates,  business leaders, and members in community nonprofits and country elective offices for almost 100 years. 

Kickoff time for this game will be released soon!

Iowa Family Game Night, Iowa Memorial Union, Hawkeye Room

Show your competitive side, and join us for our Family Game Night! Whether you plan to take center stage or participate as an audience member, you’re sure to have a great time. This is the perfect way to relax and unwind after our big Hawkeye win! 

Your registration fee includes three tickets to this event.

Family Friendly Movies, Iowa Memorial Union, Iowa and Illinois Theaters (2 PM, 5 PM, 8 PM)

Come enjoy family-friendly movies with popcorn, treats, and family! Tickets and popcorn are included with your package. Concessions are available for just $1!

Movies will be announced this fall!

UI Dance Marathon Runway of Hope Event, Iowa Memorial Union, Main Lounge (10 AM - 12 PM)

You are invited to attend a fundraising fashion show on Sunday, November 17th to support pediatric oncology patients treated at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. During this event, you will experience our Runway of Hope Kiddo Fashion Show, where our incredible Dance Marathon kids and their siblings walk the runway along with University of Iowa student leaders. Come meet our students, our Dance Marathon families, and enjoy a fashion show! Light appetizers will be provided!

Tickets are $25 per person. 100% of ticket sales go to support the cause!

Does my University of Iowa student have to pay to attend the Family Weekend events?

Yes, anyone who wants to attend the official UI Family Weekend events must have a ticket, including UI students. Additional tickets may be purchased online at the time of registration, or at a later time using your original confirmation number. You can purchase additional tickets here:

Will you mail our Family Weekend event tickets?

The tickets that are included in the non-refundable $80 registration fee will need to be picked up in person either by you or your UI student at the Registration Check-in on Friday, November 15th in the Iowa Memorial Union or at any of the events over the weekend. Details about the Registrant Check-in will be updated on the website, as the weekend approaches. If you ordered additional tickets or Family Weekend t-shirts, these should also be picked up at this time.

What else is there to do during Family Weekend?
  • The UI Athletics Hall of Fame has three floors of Hawkeye memories, from National Championship trophies to the Orange Bowl to Nile Kinnick's Heisman trophy. Admission is free. The Hall of Fame is open 8am - 6pm on November 15th, 10am - 6pm on November 16th, and Noon - 5pm on November 17th. A must-see for any fan of Hawkeye sports! Locate at 2425 Prairie Meadow Drive, Iowa City, IA.
  • UI Museum of Natural History has more than 18,000 square feet of permanent exhibits throughout MacBride Hall - right on the UI campus! Exhibits include Mammal Hall, the Hageboeck Hall of Birds, the Biosphere Discovery Hub, Iowa Hall, and the Diversity of Life Exhibits. Hours are 10am - 5pm on November 15-16, and 1pm - 5pm on November 17. Tour guides will be on hand for walk-in tours and scavenger hunts and other hands-on activities will be available!
  • The UI Museum of Art is located on the third floor of the Iowa Memorial Union. Tours should be booked in advance at the University of Iowa Museum of Art website, but walk-in hours are available. Hours are 10am - 5pm on November 15, and Noon - 5pm on November 16-17.
Does Family Weekend have hotel rooms blocked for the families of new students?

Yes, Family Weekend has a block of rooms at the Hampton Inn in Coralville. To ensure the discounted rate and availability, rooms will need to be booked by Saturday, October 5, 2019.

  1. Take exit #244 and turn south on Dubuque Street
  2. Follow Dubuque Street south to Market Street
  3. Turn right onto Market Street
  4. Follow Market Street to Madison Street
  5. Turn left onto Madison Street
  6. Follow Madison Street to Jefferson Street
  7. Turn right to enter the Iowa Memorial Union parking area

From US 6:

  1. Follow US 6 to Iowa Avenue
  2. Turn east onto Iowa Avenue
  3. Follow Iowa Avenue to Madison Street
  4. Turn left onto Madison Street
  5. Follow Madison Street to Jefferson Street


  • Iowa Memorial Union Ramp on Madison Street across from the IMU.

  • North Hall Ramp on Madison Street north of the IMU.

  • Metered street parking is also available around the IMU and downtown.

  • Football Parking (Please note: Traffic around Kinnick Stadium is very congested and parking is limited. We suggest parking in the Hancher Auditorium parking lot and using the free football charter bus to the stadium. Bus service starts 9 a.m.)
